Well, here we are: at the closing episode of S1!
This episode gives us three Clex scenes:
After Lionel closes the Luthorcorp plant (bastard! that was one of the worst things he ever did to Lex (and it's up against some pretty stiff competition)--closing the plant and leaving Lex behind to deal with the fallout)

I think Clark looks especially nice in this scene.

"Why are you blaming Lex?" Clark asks his father, who has said he "can't believe Lex ran the plant into the ground" so quickly.

"His father's the one who closed the plant."

S1 Clark was smarter and not afraid to stand up for what was right.
Shortly after, Clark pays Lex a visit--

Now, it can appear, and it likely appeared to Lex, that Clark was stopping by as a show of support for his friend. But we know from an earlier conversation at the school that Clark was planning to ask Lex if he could borrow the limo to take Chloe to the Spring Formal, so five'll get you ten that was his primary motivation--even though S1 was nicer and a significantly better friend to Lex. And at least he has the good grace not to mention the limo when he realizes what Lex is dealing with.
This is also the scene in which Clark discovers Lex has the octagon in his possession.

"Thanks for coming, Clark. It means a lot."

"What are friends for?"

The next scene is at The Talon, where Lex rescues Clark from being badgered by Roger Nixon.

"Am I missing something interesting?"

Lex pretends not to know Nixon, and Nixon plays along.

Lex is fiercely protective of Clark and the Kents in this episode and warns Nixon to stay away from them.

The wind is already picking up as Clark gets ready for the dance.

Clark thinks it's his mother ooming up the steps, and calls for her to help him tie his tie.

but it's really Lex

Who says: "I'm sure I've tied more of these than your mother."

I don't remember where I heard it, but one of the actors, directors, someone, said that MR & TW "practiced and practiced" this tie-tying scene. Would I ever love to see the practice session!

Lex and Clark's friendship is clearly strong in this ep: Lex is fierce in his protection of Clark and his parents; Clark is uneasy about what Lex may be discovering--Lex had declared earlier: "No one's ever gonna know about this," but clearly didn't count on the enterprising dedication of Roger Nixon to uncovering Clark's secrets.
