I watchec the Oliver Queen show last night, but I finished the bottle of wine I shared with the kids at dinner and was half-soused, so I’ll have to rewatch (probably tomorrow) before I post a reaction. I went to bed right after, and have a headache this a.m. Bah!
After my bible study, Leah and I are going to the Met Broadcast at Eastside 9. The opera is Aida, which, despite my love for Verdi and Ancient Egyptian stuff, has never been a favorite of mine. I’ve realized that, for me, opera is as much about plot and character as the music, and in Aida the characters are all dweebs, except for Amneris. All Aida does is mope and whine through the entire opera (though admittedly she's in a tough situation; still, sometimes I even ff through her arias!), and Radames is kind of a dope, too. Perhaps if we’d seen their developing love story, it would have been different, but as it all takes place in the antecedent action, there’s no help there.
Not that the opera doesn’t have its wonderful musical moments: all the brass and woodwinds, and the Act I Temple Scene is my favorite in the opera. I’m still looking forward to it, because even less-than-favorite Verdi is, it goes without saying, splendid.
Computer is still transferring. *sigh* Dark & gloomy again today. I refuse to rake any leaves until they’ve all fallen.
